Our
History

1962

In 1962, Camocim Farm was purchased by businessman Olivar Araújo, superintendent of the Casa Sloper Group and one of the founders of Aracruz Celulose, also known as the "tree collector." He was a pioneer in organic coffee production in this region of Espírito Santo.

For 30 years, he replanted trees, protected springs, and restored the soil. Olivar also planted exotic trees, primarily eucalyptus, pine, araucaria, and sweetgum, the latter being the symbol of Camocim.

1996

Coffee cultivation began in 1996. The farm was succeeded by businessman Henrique Sloper Araújo, who was also president of the BSCA (Brazil Specialty Coffee Association). The owners sought autonomy for the farm and opted to produce high-quality, organic coffee, free from pesticides and pesticides. To achieve this goal, an external consultancy was hired to help the farmers understand and adopt best practices for the plantation. Later, the farm refined the technique and began producing biodynamic coffee, which is higher quality, more resistant to pests, and also enriches the soil and improves the environment.

1999

Camocim is certified by IBD (Biodynamic Institute), which guarantees the authenticity of its products without any chemical additives. QIMA/IBD is the largest certifying body in Latin America and the only Brazilian certifying body for organic/BIODYNAMIC products. IBD certification has international credibility and is monitored by institutions such as IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements) in England; DAR in Germany; USDA in the United States; and JAS in Japan. IBD-certified products are exported to Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, the United States, France, the Netherlands, Japan, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Switzerland, and Canada.

2006

Camocim begins producing Café do Jacu, a coffee produced exclusively by Fazenda Camocim, made from Jacu's selection of the finest coffee beans. The first production of Café do Jacu occurred in 2006, with a few kilos. By 2008, it reached approximately 150 kilos per year. Eighty percent of the coffee goes to countries such as France, Japan, Australia, and the United States. The coffee is distributed through distinguished brands in excellent restaurants, hotels, and coffee shops. Exported to Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, the USA, France, the Netherlands, Japan, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Switzerland, and Canada.

2008

Camocim Farm is certified by Demeter, a global certification that recognizes biodynamic products. Demeter products are part of an international ecological network linked to Demeter International, headquartered in Germany. The Biodynamic method guarantees that the product's cultivation complied with all the rules governing soil, plant, and seed fertility, and that its fertilization was carried out in harmony with the animals and the environment in general. It guarantees the diversity of local agriculture. Biodynamics respects all living processes, particularly the regular and conscious use of Biodynamic preparations and respect for the cosmic rhythms and cycles in plant and animal production.

Research shows that major brands in the Brazilian market have a contamination rate of over 2% (a higher limit than the 1% permitted by Brazilian law). As reported in major media outlets, these products may contain rat hair, insects, and dirt residue.

Contamination usually occurs during storage and the industrialization process, not during planting.

BIODYNAMISM

Café Fazenda Camocim
Biodynamics seeks to renew agricultural management, heal our soils, and produce foods that truly nourish human beings. Biodynamic agriculture does not use synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, genetically modified seeds, antibiotics, or hormones.
Biodynamic agriculture is based on the systematic knowledge of philosopher Rudolf Steiner and understands the relationship between soil, plants, animals, humans, and the cosmos. To establish connections between the earth and the cosmos, biodynamics uses homeopathic preparations based on cow manure, minerals, and medicinal plants that promote soil revitalization. These preparations act as catalysts for processes and increase the plants' intrinsic capacity to produce nutrients.

In this way, the eating, sleeping, breeding, living and lifestyle habits of this bird will be learned, as it became extinct 20 years ago despite no longer having any natural predators.

Through research, Camocim hopes to find the best way to create a recovery area for these birds.
